Overview

Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable.

In Short

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems for managing distributed energy resources.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering peers for system reliability.
• Lead the development of APIs and event streams for applications.
• Manage structured data in relational databases.
• Participate in code reviews and system architecture discussions.
• Write clean, efficient, and testable code.
• Support operational decision-making with domain logic.

• Engage with utility control rooms for load management.
• Drive continuous improvement in backend design.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend systems development.
• Strong expertise in Python and Ruby on Rails.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Passion for clean energy and decarbonization is a bonus.
