Director of Accounting - Remote

Overview

The Director of Accounting role is a key leadership position responsible for the integrity of all financial operations and reporting at The Trevor Project, ensuring compliance with GAAP and guiding the accounting team.

In Short

• Oversee daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as liaison with external auditors.
• Enhance and enforce internal control policies.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and federal/state regulations.
• Work closely with the CFO for budget-to-actual reports.
• Lead and manage a team of direct reports.
• Partner with department leaders for fund reporting.
• Manage financial systems and suggest improvements.
• Participate in cross-departmental projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Must have 990 audit experience.
• Experience leading and managing teams.
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting and GAAP.
• Proficient in accounting software, CRM, and Excel.
• Exceptional communication and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
