The DHHS Fraud Investigator plays a crucial role in investigating allegations of fraud related to public assistance programs in Nebraska, utilizing skills in law enforcement and investigative reporting.

In Short

  • Conduct audits of client records to identify potential fraud.
  • Interview clients, employers, and third parties for information.
  • Determine intent to defraud and recommend prosecution if necessary.
  • Represent the agency in hearings and court proceedings.
  • Negotiate repayment agreements for overpayments.
  • Act as a resource for the public and DHHS staff.
  • Work under limited supervision.
  • Maintain a business casual dress code.
  • Driving is required for this position.
  • Full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Requirements

  • Post high school coursework in criminal justice, law, or social work.
  • Experience in social service eligibility determination or investigation.
  • Prior law enforcement or criminal investigation experience preferred.
  • Ability to document and communicate effectively.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Knowledge of agency rules and procedures regarding investigations.
  • Ability to conduct interviews and gather information.
  • Skills in report writing and presenting findings.
  • Ability to solve arithmetic problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders.
