Overview

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for generating and maintaining revenue by promoting the full suite of John S. Connor (JSC) services—including ocean and air freight forwarding, NVOCC services, customs brokerage, and related logistics solutions. This remote role is focused on business development in the Norfolk, VA region.

In Short

  • Identify and pursue prospective accounts in the Norfolk market.
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of potential and target accounts.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with existing customers.
  • Conduct telemarketing, networking, and field-based outreach.
  • Prepare and deliver proposals and presentations to clients.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to meet client needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity in CRM systems.
  • Submit timely sales reports and documentation.
  • Achieve and exceed established sales targets.
  • Stay informed of market trends and competitor activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain sales.
  • Working knowledge of international freight operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with transportation-related technology platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Knowledge of world geography and freight market dynamics.
  • Access to reliable transportation for client meetings.
