Overview

The Inpatient Coordinator is responsible for admitting patients, managing documentation, and providing support and communication during the admission process at UMass Memorial Health.

In Short

  • Admit patients to assigned beds and initiate appropriate forms.
  • Coordinate bed assignments with the Nursing Supervisor.
  • Prepare admission forms and verify demographic and insurance information.
  • Escort patients to assigned locations and instruct them on services.
  • Handle insurance pre-certification and authorization.
  • Generate ID bracelets and maintain patient valuables log.
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate communication and support.
  • Process scheduled admissions and maintain census accuracy.
  • Communicate professionally with patients and families.
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment focused on patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate required; medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • 1–2 years of related office experience preferred.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Strong customer service background.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work occasional holidays and weekends.
  • Knowledge of growth and development stages.
