Overview

Shippo is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a backend team working on critical domains, enabling scalable and reliable shipping solutions for customers worldwide.

In Short

• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers.

• Define and execute the technical roadmap for the Rating API domain.
• Ensure scalability and high availability of high-volume APIs.
• Deliver new rating features, including carrier integrations.
• Partner with Product and Infrastructure teams to align on priorities.
• Drive best practices in API design and system resilience.
• Manage incident response and continuous improvement.
• Champion automation, testing, and CI/CD for faster delivery.
• Streamline processes for managing rate cards and customer rates.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Managed teams of 8+ people.
• 9+ years of experience in software development.
• Coding experience in backend languages (Python, Go, Java, Ruby).
• Experience with backend frameworks (Django, FastAPI).
• Understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
• Experience integrating with REST, gRPC, SOAP APIs.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
