Overview

The Lactation Specialist (RN) will perform activities in the Lactation Center, engaging in patient rounds and acting as a liaison between the Lactation Center and Maternal Child staff.

In Short

  • Engage in staff and patient education regarding breastfeeding.
  • Act as a resource for staff in problem identification and resolution.
  • Assist with the development of educational programs and learning aids.
  • Participate in hospital work teams and special projects.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff.
  • Practice cost-effective use of staff and supplies.
  • Set goals for self and department in performance management.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the hospital.
  • Maintain knowledge of quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure an exceptional patient and family experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • 5-7 years of clinical experience, including care for newborns and breastfeeding mothers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and utilize adult learning principles.
  • RN State Licensure required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant preferred.
  • Knowledge of joint commission standards.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Customer service orientation.
