Pro Bono Counsel - Remote

Overview

The Pro Bono Counsel is responsible for running the Pro Bono Program at the City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, connecting volunteer attorneys with low-income residents in need of legal assistance.

In Short

• Manage day-to-day operations of the Pro Bono Program.
• Recruit new volunteer lawyers and service organizations.
• Assist OATH Help Center staff with case referrals.
• Coordinate with various internal teams and executive leadership.
• Identify pathways to expand the program.
• Maintain records of pro bono case assignments.
• Collect and monitor data regarding pro bono cases.
• Strategic planning for program enhancements.
• Work in a hybrid office/remote schedule after training.
• Ensure compliance with New York State Bar membership requirements.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• One year of legal experience post-admission or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Maintain good standing with the New York State Bar.
• Experience in relevant areas of law for higher assignment levels.
