Overview

The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) plays a crucial role in providing preliminary patient workups and diagnostic testing in a clinical setting under the supervision of healthcare professionals.

In Short

  • Perform initial patient screenings and document medical histories.
  • Conduct various ophthalmic diagnostic tests.
  • Assist in medical and refractive laser procedures.
  • Measure and record vital signs.

  • Provide cross-coverage to other locations as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ocular anatomy and pharmacology.
  • Attend required training and comply with hospital policies.
  • Support the delivery of complete ophthalmic care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • At least one year of experience as an ophthalmic assistant preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat DC.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks.
  • Compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
