Overview

The Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for conducting technical and administrative patient support activities that assist the professional staff in administering healthcare and support for patients and families in the outpatient ophthalmic clinic.

In Short

  • Modify patient treatment plans based on responses and conditions.
  • Prepare patients for visual field tests.
  • Record patient history and chief eye complaints.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician.
  • Perform color vision testing and glare/brightness testing.
  • Implement infection control policies and procedures.
  • Update patient’s health records with eye medications and history.
  • Adhere to professional standards and local requirements.
  • Assist in patient care activities in an outpatient setting.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • No experience in lieu of a degree accepted.
  • Experience in an ophthalmic or healthcare setting preferred (0-1 year).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat DC.
