Outpatient Coder - Remote

Overview

The Outpatient Coder at the University of Maryland Medical System is responsible for coding hospital Emergency Department and ancillary visit records to ensure appropriate reimbursement and compliance with regulations.

In Short

• Code outpatient visits including ED and clinic records.
• Maintain a coding quality accuracy rate of 90%.
• Facilitate the billing process within established timeframes.
• Communicate with various departments regarding billing issues.
• Comply with AHIMA coding standards.
• Support UMMS mission and policies.
• Perform coding corrections as assigned.
• Work under direct supervision.
• Utilize ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training required.
• Outpatient coding experience in healthcare preferred.
• Certification in coding (e.g., CCS, RHIT, CPC).
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
• Computer experience and typing ability.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
