Outpatient Coder - Remote

Overview

The Outpatient Coder is responsible for coding hospital Emergency Department and ancillary visit records to ensure appropriate reimbursement and compliance with regulations.

In Short

• Codes outpatient visits using ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding systems.
• Monitors daily work to facilitate billing processes.
• Maintains coding accuracy and productivity rates.
• Communicates with hospital departments regarding billing issues.
• Complies with ethical coding standards.
• Supports UMMS mission and policies.
• Performs coding corrections as assigned.
• Requires formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training.
• 1-2 years of coding experience preferred.
• Certification in coding is required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training.
• 6 months - 1 year outpatient coding experience.
• Preferred: Associates or Bachelor’s degree.
• Certification: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, or COC.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
• Computer experience and typing ability.
