Outpatient Coder - Remote

Overview

The Outpatient Coder is responsible for coding hospital Emergency Department and ancillary visit records to ensure appropriate reimbursement and compliance with regulations.

In Short

• Codes hospital outpatient visit records using ICD-10 and CPT-4 systems.
• Maintains coding quality accuracy rate of 90%.
• Monitors daily work to facilitate timely billing.
• Communicates with hospital departments on billing issues.
• Complies with AHIMA standards of coding.
• Supports UMMS mission and policies.
• Performs coding corrections as assigned.
• Requires formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training.
• Prior experience in outpatient coding preferred.
• Must hold a coding certification.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training required.
• 6 months - 1 year outpatient coding experience.
• 1-2 years coding experience in acute healthcare preferred.
• Certification such as CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, or COC required.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Familiar with basic medical terminology.
• Computer experience and typing ability.
