Overview

The Associate Counsel for Labor & Employment provides legal counsel regarding labor and employment matters to Human Resources and leaders at the University of Maryland Medical System.

In Short

• Provide legal counsel to Human Resources.
• Counsel management on complex employee relations matters.
• Represent UMMS before relevant administrative agencies.
• Conduct internal investigations.
• Participate as strategic counsel in workgroups.
• Ensure compliance with employee benefit plan regulations.
• Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements.
• Oversee immigration-related matters.
• Prepare legal training courses for employees.
• Perform corporate compliance work.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the bar of at least one state, preferably Maryland.
• At least five years of experience as a labor and employment attorney.
• Experience in a law firm setting preferred.
• Current knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
• Strong consensus-building skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Established organizational and prioritization skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
