Backend Engineer - Risk & Trading - Remote

Overview

A Backend Engineer at Sleeper will focus on designing and implementing Python backend services that integrate with Elixir and GCP for risk management and trading operations.

In Short

• Design & implement Python backend services for real-time risk management and trading.
• Build scalable infrastructure for pricing engines and market operations.
• Integrate with Elixir services via gRPC/REST, Kafka, and Redis.
• Architect distributed systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with data scientists on model deployment.
• Own projects from ideation through production.

Requirements

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience with Python.
• Experience designing distributed systems for high throughput.
• Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, Google Pub/Sub) and caching (Redis).
• Comfortable with Elixir or eager to learn.
• Critical thinking about edge cases and failure modes.
• Calm and communicative under pressure.
• Preferred: Experience with ScyllaDB/Cassandra.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Rust, Go, or C++.
• Preferred: Knowledge of risk modeling or market-making algorithms.
• Preferred: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and GitLab CI.
