Overview

The Peer Specialist will provide person-centered, recovery-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed Peer support to participants in the Queens Supervised Release Program, working as part of an interdisciplinary team.

In Short

  • Manage a caseload of 15-20 high-needs participants.
  • Provide face-to-face, telephonic, and community Peer counseling.
  • Utilize evidence-based support techniques.
  • Develop relationships with participants to provide self-help tools.
  • Meet with participants in various settings for support and guidance.
  • Facilitate court-based Peer support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of participant interactions.
  • Work evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Travel via public transportation for community visits.
  • Participate in Peer-led support groups.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalency required.
  • NYS Peer Specialist certification or Recovery Peer Advocate certification required.
  • 2 years of experience as a Peer Specialist or similar role.
  • Experience providing community-based Peer support.
  • History of lived experience in recovery or the criminal justice system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Willingness to travel for community visits.
