Senior Freight Planner - Remote

Overview

Northstar Recycling is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Freight Planner to play a role in optimizing our transportation network and ensuring competitive freight costs. You will be instrumental in cultivating strong, mutually beneficial relationships with our carrier partners and proactively identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce expenses. This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional negotiation and problem-solving skills, coupled with a deep understanding of the freight market.

In Short

• Management of Trello board to ensure efficient dispatch and tracking of shipments.
• Building relationships with existing haulers, while actively identifying and onboarding new carrier partners.
• Verifying hauler equipment specifications and capacity to match freight requirements effectively.
• Proactively monitoring hauler performance against key metrics and providing constructive feedback.
• Conducting in-depth analysis to pinpoint freight savings opportunities.
• Swiftly addressing and resolving freight-related complaints.
• Employing creative problem-solving techniques to navigate logistical challenges.
• Managing high-volume freight movements in a brokerage setting.
• Communicating effectively regarding market-driven repricing and strategic rate negotiations.
• Providing on-call support after hours as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 3+ years in freight planning or logistics.
• Experience with freight brokers or Third-Party Logistics providers preferred.
• Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
• Strong knowledge of lane rating methodologies and freight forecasting.
• Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
• Understanding of various transportation modes and market dynamics.
• Exceptional customer service orientation.
• Highly self-motivated and proactive.
