Patent Counsel - Remote

Overview

The Patent Counsel plays a key role in supporting the patent prosecution function of the Legal Department and will also help support other areas of the business. The individual has experience either in-house or at a law firm providing advice and guidance to pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies.

In Short

• Draft patent applications and identify patentable subject matter.
• Conduct all phases of U.S. patent prosecution.
• Instruct foreign counsel on patent filings.
• Develop strategies for managing the company’s patent estate.
• Advise on freedom-to-operate issues.
• Oversee patent infringement litigation and related matters.
• Work with R&D to protect innovations in cell and gene therapies.
• Assist with patent licensing and transactional matters.
• Conduct legal training for employees.
• Support Legal Department analytics and reporting capabilities.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience at a law firm or in-house.
• Juris Doctorate from a recognized law school.
• Admitted to the US Patent Bar.
• Admitted to practice in California or Pennsylvania.
• Undergraduate and graduate degree in life sciences.
• Understanding of patent-related contractual matters.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
