Overview

The Telephone Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating the switchboard, answering and directing calls, and managing emergency communications in a hospital environment.

In Short

  • Monitor and operate the switchboard for incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Direct calls and overhead paging inquiries efficiently.
  • Triage and prioritize calls based on urgency.
  • Respond to alarms, security calls, and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain and clean switchboard equipment.
  • Log emergency response information.
  • Reprogram computerized fire alarm systems when activated.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and data security guidelines.
  • Comply with company policies and conduct standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 months related experience or training preferred.
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Training as a Telephone Operator or Receptionist preferred.
  • Experience with PC-based telephone operator console.
