Overview

This job performs thorough medical record review to abstract medical and demographic data, interpret and apply diagnoses and procedures utilizing ICD coding systems and assists in decreasing the average accounts receivable days.

In Short

  • Reviews and interprets medical information and treatment plans to determine appropriate ICD codes.
  • Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters coded information into designated systems.
  • Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
  • Stays informed of changes in ICD guidelines through training and resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum requirement: High School / GED.
  • 1 year experience in hospital coding.
  • Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Certification as Coding Associate (CCS) or equivalent within 1 year.
  • Strong data entry skills and familiarity with medical terminology.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of hospital coding experience.
  • Completion of relevant coding courses.
  • Certification as CCS, RHIT, or RHIA preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Ability to work well with healthcare team members.
  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
