In Short

  • Establish and develop GiveWell's livelihoods portfolio strategy and execution.
  • Build GiveWell's portfolio of livelihoods grants from the ground up.
  • Identify investment areas that are highly cost-effective.
  • Carry out evidence review and build cost-effectiveness models.
  • Investigate and recommend grant opportunities.
  • Lead GiveWell’s external engagement and build relationships in the livelihoods space.
  • Contribute to GiveWell's broader research and organizational goals.
  • Potentially establish and manage a small team conducting world-class research.
  • Uphold GiveWell’s core values: maximizing global well-being, truth-seeking, transparency, and considerateness.
  • Invest in the professional development of junior members of the research team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in similar roles.
  • Rigorous analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis and cost-effectiveness modeling.
  • Strong strategic thinking and self-directed execution.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple workstreams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience engaging with livelihoods-focused programs.
  • Experience reviewing randomized controlled trials and impact evaluations.
  • Experience overseeing large budgets and/or grant portfolios.
  • Soft qualities such as curiosity and teamwork.
