Overview

The Fluids Management Specialist is the single-point authority for General Motors’ Global Propulsion System (GPS) Metal Removal Fluids (MRF) strategy and approvals. This role protects employee health, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports manufacturing performance across global propulsion operations.

In Short

  • Lead the Metal Removal Fluid Strategy Team (MRFST).
  • Ensure compliance with MRF policies and management guidelines.
  • Authorize new or changed MRF uses.
  • Oversee biostability testing and communicate final determinations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for metalworking fluids.
  • Conduct plant visits to assess MRF practices.
  • Drive standardized coolant strategies across GPS operations.
  • Chair the LS2 Lubricants Standards Committee for GM North America.
  • Maintain LS2 standards data in SupplyPower.
  • Communicate MRF strategy and risks to plants and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering or chemistry field.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or chemical management.
  • Experience with industrial coolant/MRF systems.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental considerations.
  • Proven ability to apply corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional technical leadership.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience leading technical teams or standards committees.
  • Familiarity with GM systems and standards.
  • Ability to influence across plants and corporate functions.
