Senior Legal Counsel, Business Operations - Remote

Overview

Canva is seeking a Product & Privacy Legal Counsel who will be responsible for providing support and advice to Canva’s core internal teams, particularly in relation to privacy and business operations.

In Short

• Be the first point of contact for the Canva People team regarding Product & Privacy and AI governance.
• Monitor the regulatory landscape for applicable laws and standards.
• Advise on Privacy Impact Assessments and related queries.
• Support privacy and legal training initiatives across Canva.
• Ensure terms of use and internal policies remain current.
• Help redefine the role of in-house counsel by building tools and processes.
• Work with business stakeholders to evaluate privacy law impacts.
• Provide legal advice on complex privacy issues.
• Assist in managing personal data incidents.
• Experience with AI to drive efficiency in legal processes.

Requirements

• Legally qualified with an AUS practising certificate.
• 8+ years of legal practice, with in-house experience preferred.
• Experience advising on global privacy compliance in a SaaS environment.
• Demonstrated experience with data residency and sensitive personal data.
• Experience in delivering privacy training.
• CIPP/E certification is a plus.
• Strong business sense and good judgment.
• Ability to simplify complex laws for swift decision-making.
• Experience with AI governance.
