Indirect Tax Researcher - Remote

Overview

As our Indirect Tax Researcher, you will be involved in the development of international content to support Avalara's Trade Compliance tools which provide compliance requirements for assisting customers manage their import and export compliance requirements. You will report to the Director, Indirect Tax. This role can be remote in the United States.

In Short

• Guide organizations understanding of regulatory and license requirements enacted by governmental agencies to manage cross border shipment compliance with applicable statutes
• Research trade compliance regulations with focus on import and export controls, provide high-quality analysis regulations and summarize/document compliance requirements
• Create expert level guidance for use in customers interpretation and adherence to hazmat, carrier and international trade regulations
• Evaluate and update guidance documents, export controls manuals, and other policy and process documents to ensure compliance with current rules and regulations
• Be an expert on US, Canadian, EU export regulations and product safety compliance laws, and import/customs regulations
• Lead the development of compliance content approach, develop strategies to source and sustain the deployment of trade compliance content with Trade restrictions product, making trade-offs to balance our needs with technical constraints
• Identify opportunities to increase bandwidth through automation and streamlining of business processes

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in trade controls, with an emphasis on export and import regulations in the US and understanding of the APAC and EU regulations.
• Research and technical writing experience
• BA/BS Degree
• Experience implementing and managing trade compliance programs
• Experience in Logistics, Tax, and Trade Compliance.
• Experience with US and Canadian export controls systems and government tools, export/import classification, and country of origin determination
• Export license management, Export classifications (ECCN control number classifications), CE and UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) compliance, CITES)/ Cultural subject areas, Annual reports, documentation and recordkeeping in compliance with licenses and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), FDA, FCC compliance licensing,
• You understand requirements for import/export, BIS, CDP, OFAC
