Overview

As an integral member of the Research team, the Researcher is responsible for proactively identifying, developing, and driving in-depth investigations and research to achieve strategic goals that advances American Oversight’s mission.

In Short

• Proactively identify and propose strategic, high-impact areas of investigation and research.
• Draft targeted, strategic, litigation-ready public records requests.
• Analyze complex government documents and synthesize findings.
• Develop expertise on key issue areas related to American Oversight’s priorities.
• Produce clear content that distills complex information into accessible formats.
• Represent American Oversight and brief outside groups and journalists.
• Support partnerships and communications teams with collaborative work products.
• Follow news to stay updated on areas of expertise.
• Implement projects that present investigative findings.
• Maintain communication with government agencies about open records requests.

Requirements

• 1+ years’ experience in government investigations, investigative journalism, or policy research.
• Understanding of relevant news developments and the political landscape.
• Interest in American Oversight’s mission of government accountability.
• Strong skills in attention to detail, collaboration, and communication.
• Ability to assess information and make sound decisions.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Project management abilities to handle multiple projects.
• Self-motivation and ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace.
• Experience in diverse and inclusive workplaces.
