Staff Backend Engineer - Remote

Short Story is an award-winning, technology-powered retailer dedicated to petite women 5'4" and under. We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help shape our tech ecosystem.

In Short

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Python.
• Write clean, well-documented, and well-tested code.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for robust systems.
• Own core infrastructure components across AWS, Postgres, and Kubernetes.
• Deploy and monitor services using CI/CD best practices.
• Contribute to system architecture and tech design decisions.
• Ensure reliability and performance across systems.
• Help establish engineering guidelines and backend best practices.
• 5+ years of back-end development experience preferred.
• Experience working remotely is a plus.

Requirements

• Back-end development experience with complex systems.
• Fluent in Python and frameworks like Flask, Falcon, or FastAPI.
• Experience with Kubernetes and AWS.
• Strong experience with relational databases like Postgres.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools.
• Experience with Pytest or similar frameworks.
• Clean and consistent API design experience.
• Experience with event-driven architectures.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
