Overview

The Medical Scribe is an unlicensed member of the healthcare team responsible for documenting the physician's or licensed independent practitioner's dictation and activities into the medical record.

In Short

• Document patient history, examinations, and procedures in the medical record.
• Accompany physicians during patient examinations to transcribe information.
• Gather laboratory and medical data for physician review.
• Maintain communication with healthcare team members.
• Ensure data is reviewed before entering into the medical record.
• Cannot provide medical advice or relay orders.
• Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Typing speed of 50 wpm preferred.
• Work hours are typically Monday to Friday.
• Position is subject to core competencies and quality assurance monitoring.
