Overview

The Coding Compliance Audit & Education Specialist audits medical records for compliance with federal coding regulations and guidelines, ensuring proper documentation and coding practices.

In Short

  • Conduct audits comparing medical record documentation to reported codes.
  • Research and communicate federal and state laws regarding CMS and Medicare.
  • Act as an internal expert on coding compliance.
  • Prepare audit reports summarizing findings.
  • Conduct post-audit provider education.
  • Schedule trainings with providers.
  • Provide feedback and ongoing education on documentation guidelines.
  • Communicate audit findings to providers.
  • Provide coding assessment and consultation.
  • Handle difficult conversations regarding compliance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of audit and provider education experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) required.
  • Experience with MDAudit and Athena is a plus.
  • Must comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

  • Base salary range of $70,000.00 to $80,000.00.
  • Eligible for an annual bonus targeted at 15%.
