Overview

The Medical Coding Auditor-Outpatient is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of medical coding practices within the organization, focusing on Outpatient services.

• Audit medical records for accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations.
• Identify and correct coding errors and provide feedback to coding staff.
• Provide training and support to coding staff on best practices.
• Prepare detailed audit reports highlighting findings and trends.
• Assist in developing and updating coding policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with medical billing, compliance, and clinical teams.
• Stay current with changes in coding regulations and industry trends.
• Maintain coding certifications through continuing education.
• Work independently and remotely without on-site supervision.

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and CMS guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in coding software and electronic health record systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Active certification required (CPC, CCS, etc.).
• At least three years of experience in coding/auditing required.
