VP of Engineering - Remote

Overview

Are you an experienced VP of Engineering who excels at driving transformative change? Percona, a leading provider of open-source database software and services, is seeking a technical VP of Engineering to join our team. This isn't a VP of Engineering role focused on managing a single product or team; rather, you'll be a key leader in orchestrating technical excellence across multiple engineering groups.

This is a fully remote position, and you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse, global team of passionate open-source enthusiasts. You're a high-level strategic thinker with a keen eye for technical detail, and you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves to identify and solve complex problems.

In Short

• Lead Technical Transformation: Identify and drive technical initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability across our engineering organization.
• Mentor and Coach: Act as a technical mentor and coach for engineering leaders and senior individual contributors.
• Define and Evangelize Best Practices: Establish and promote engineering best practices, standards, and processes.
• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with executive leadership and product management to align technical strategy with business goals.
• Extensive Experience: At least five years of experience in engineering leadership.
• Technical Acumen: Deep, hands-on technical knowledge of software development.
• Transformational Leadership: Proven track record of driving significant technical and process improvements.
• Exceptional Communicator: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Collaborative Spirit: Thrive in a collaborative, remote-first environment.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in engineering leadership.
• Strong background in architecture and technical strategy.
• Knowledge of database internals is useful but not required.
• Hands-on technical knowledge of open-source technologies and cloud-native architectures.
• Proven track record of driving improvements across multiple teams.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.
• Strong relationship-building skills.
