Overview

The Group Underwriting Specialist is responsible for providing expertise and oversight of underwriting activities within OTIP’s group benefit consulting and underwriting services.

In Short

  • Establish communication between Group Insurance Service departments.
  • Evaluate new business and plan amendment requests.
  • Develop and present solutions for plan issues.
  • Evaluate contractual and administration exceptions.
  • Produce amendment communications and coordinate processes.
  • Create and maintain member/benefit eligibility documents.
  • Coordinate underwriting administration of renewals.
  • Work closely with Benefits Consultants.
  • Provide service support to consultants and account managers.
  • Monitor benefits environment for current practices.

Requirements

  • College diploma or equivalent insurance-related courses.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in group insurance underwriting.
  • High level of knowledge of insurance contracts and benefit provisions.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Long-Term Disability contract wording.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
