General Counsel - Remote

Overview

As Optery’s first in-house General Counsel, you’ll be responsible for building and leading the company’s legal function from the ground up, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and advocating for consumer rights.

In Short

• Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and leadership team on legal matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements.
• Lead privacy and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Maximize data broker compliance with opt out requests.
• Support corporate governance and financing transactions.
• Advise on employment matters and risk mitigation.
• Manage outside counsel relationships.
• Build and lead the legal function.
• Work closely with regulatory agencies.
• Influence industry practices around data broker compliance.

Requirements

• 8–15 years of legal experience, including in-house at a tech company.
• Expertise in U.S. consumer data privacy law.
• Experience with regulatory agencies.
• Background in commercial contracts and corporate governance.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Passion for consumer privacy.
• Track record of professional success.
• Licensed to practice law in the U.S.
