Communications Associate - Remote

Overview

The Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition (MEJC) is seeking a Communications Associate to support the organization’s narrative work. In this vital role, you’ll be helping to tell stories of environmental justice in the state through work that includes coordinating branding of campaigns, organizing press events, contributing to and managing social media content and calendars, and creating multimedia content and regular maintenance of MEJC websites.

In Short

• Develop social media graphics, images, text, and other collateral for campaigns.
• Collaborate on press releases, op-eds, and media advisories.
• Contribute to social media toolkits and messaging guides.
• Promote and develop narrative toolkits and branding strategies.
• Maintain a regular monthly newsletter.
• Produce short-form videos for narrative strategy.
• Edit and develop website content, including blog posts.
• Work with external vendors on special projects.
• Contribute to organizing and planning major events.
• Support Policy and Organizing teams on emergent issues.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of work experience in journalism or communications.
• Familiarity with cold-calling/emailing.
• Deadline-oriented and able to accommodate tight turnaround times.
• Experience with social media platforms and video editing software.
• Strong writing and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice issues.
• Ability to problem-solve complex communications issues.
• Experience with marginalized communities.
