Lead Database Engineer - Remote

LGND is an early-stage startup revolutionizing geospatial AI infrastructure. We bridge the gap between large Earth observation models and specific application developers, enabling intuitive interaction with large Earth observation models and geospatial data. Our core mission is to empower decision-makers with rapid insights from vast, complex datasets. As part of our small, dynamic team, you will play a foundational role in building tools that have never existed before.

In Short

• Design, maintain, and optimize the core LGND database layer (Postgres with PostGIS and pgvector extensions).
• Build and manage ingestion pipelines for pgvector-backed similarity search indexes.
• Collaborate with AWS engineers to optimize performance and minimize costs.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting across ingestion and search services.
• Architect for scale using various techniques like partitioning and async ingestion.
• Optimize infrastructure for Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
• Maintain clear infrastructure diagrams and service contracts.
• Coordinate with backend, API, and research teams.

Requirements

• Experience in database architecture and management.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and pgvector.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services, particularly Aurora and S3.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
• Ability to design scalable systems.
• Strong documentation and collaboration skills.
• Experience in cross-functional team integration.
