Senior Data Engineer - Remote

Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at Instinct Science, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling our core data infrastructure across Redshift, Airflow, and AWS, ensuring our data systems are secure, reliable, and easy to work with.

In Short

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using Airflow, dbt, and AWS-native services.
• Manage and optimize Redshift clusters for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
• Own the architecture and lifecycle of our core data infrastructure.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on data engineering for both platform and product teams.
• Build observability and alerting into pipelines to catch issues before they impact users.
• Partner cross-functionally to gather data requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
• Mentor junior team members and promote data engineering best practices across the company.
• Ensure systems are designed to meet compliance and audit standards.
• Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and retrospectives.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering with a strong focus on AWS environments.
• Proficiency in Redshift and data warehouse performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Airflow or other orchestration frameworks.
• Expertise in SQL, Python, and data modeling.
• Experience with dbt and modular data modeling.
• Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC tools (preferred).
• Understanding of compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO 27001 (preferred).
• Exposure to event-driven or real-time data architectures (preferred).
• Background in supporting embedded analytics or data services in SaaS products (preferred).
