Overview

The Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) plays a critical role in the collection, analysis, and reporting of cancer data to support clinical research, treatment planning, and public health initiatives.

In Short

  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy and compliance of oncology data.
  • Abstract, analyze, and code clinical data from medical records.
  • Utilize standardized classification systems for data entry.
  • Conduct records maintenance and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and data audits.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports for stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with coding standards and cancer reporting guidelines.
  • Maintain CTR credentials through the National Cancer Registrar's Association.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in healthcare settings.

Requirements

  • Current ODS certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a tumor registry role.
  • Proficiency in ICD-O-3 coding and other coding systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with cancer registry software and electronic health record systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior experience using OncoTrax is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cancer program accreditation standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and data privacy regulations.
