Overview

The New York City Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Electrical Code, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. The Cost Validation Unit provides ongoing technical support and ensures accurate project permit fees are collected.

In Short

  • Review applications and evaluate current plan examination practices.
  • Conduct weekly audits of certified jobs and alteration projects.
  • Resolve objections from failed audits.
  • Develop risk-based models for construction projects.
  • Monitor compliance and update guidelines according to Code changes.
  • Implement initiatives to improve program effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support for process improvement.
  • Assist in enforcement actions for fee collection.
  • Work remotely up to 2 days per week.
  • Consideration for applicants in comparable civil service titles.

Requirements

  • Four-year high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven years of experience in general construction estimating.
  • Equivalent education/experience may substitute for required experience.
  • Undergraduate credits can substitute for experience (30 credits = 1 year).
  • Experience in civil engineering or architecture can substitute for up to five years of experience.
  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in general construction estimating is mandatory.
