Supervising Inspector, DHS Inspections - Remote

Overview

The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. This position performs supervisory work in the inspection of buildings, other structures, and/or devices for conformity with relevant codes and regulations.

In Short

• Supervise inspectorial staff and coordinate workflow.
• Conduct inspections and respond to incidents and complaints.
• Enforce laws and rules relevant to the field.
• Maintain records and make reports.
• Train subordinates in their duties.
• Represent the Department at meetings and conferences.
• May operate a motor vehicle for assigned duties.
• Eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle driver license in New York.
• Position funded by an MOU with the NYC Department of Homeless Services.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in plumbing or inspection.
• Formal training in plumbing or a related field is preferred.
• Sixty credits towards a degree in civil engineering or related fields.
• Completion of an apprentice program in plumbing.
• Equivalent education or experience may be considered.
• Additional years of experience required for higher assignment levels.
