In Short

• Examines and reviews design and/or equipment plans for compliance with NYC Construction Codes.
• Works with professionals to achieve compliant building or alteration programs.
• Reviews site safety plans.
• Engages in research related to construction or demolition of structures.
• Explains and enforces rules to the public.
• Testifies to support violations for non-compliant construction.
• May perform fieldwork to assess structural stability.
• May operate a motor vehicle for duties.
• Position may allow for remote work up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree in civil or mechanical engineering or architecture.
• Experience in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or architectural work.
• Master’s degree in relevant fields may substitute for experience.
• First professional degrees in architecture are considered.
• Experience in building design or construction is required.
• Knowledge of NYC Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution.
• Ability to explain complex rules to the public.
• Fieldwork capability may be necessary.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Commitment to public safety and compliance.
