Overview

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) promotes quality and affordability in the city's housing, and diversity and strength in the city’s neighborhoods.

In Short

• Serve as a Staff Attorney litigating cases on behalf of HPD.
• Execute difficult negotiations for the agency.
• Research and prepare complex legal documents.
• Conduct trials and prepare witnesses.
• Advise on legal aspects of housing enforcement.
• Must be admitted to the New York State Bar.
• One year of legal experience or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern required.
• Knowledge of NYC Housing Maintenance Code and NYS Multiple Dwelling Law preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software is necessary.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• One year of satisfactory legal experience or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Maintain good standing with the New York State Bar.
• Knowledge of housing laws is essential.
• Strong communication and software skills are necessary.
