General Counsel - Remote

Overview

The Black Futures Lab is hiring for a General Counsel position to serve as the organization’s chief legal advisor and compliance leader, supporting the operations of a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and Super PAC.

In Short

• Serve as the central point of contact for all legal matters.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit tax law and campaign finance regulations.
• Provide strategic legal advice to the organization’s Board and leadership.
• Draft, negotiate, and finalize contracts and legal documents.
• Monitor compliance with tax laws for nonprofit entities.
• Advise on employment matters and develop workplace policies.
• Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive solutions.
• Design and deliver legal training sessions for staff.
• Collaborate with outside legal counsel on organizational operations.
• Support governance efforts and ensure adherence to bylaws.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Active bar membership in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience.
• Experience advising on legal issues affecting 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects.
• Expertise in campaign finance and lobbying compliance.
• Exceptional attention to detail and communication skills.
• Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
• Experience in a remote work environment is preferred.
