Associate General Counsel - Remote

Overview

The Associate General Counsel will support the Deputy General Counsel in leading key functions in the Legal team, with a focus on privacy and product counseling workflows.

In Short

• Advise on legal and regulatory matters related to privacy and security.
• Collaborate to define and shape a vision for the Foundation’s privacy team.
• Manage a team providing transactional and product counseling support.
• Improve internal workflows for product counseling and legal advice.
• Oversee annual refresh of the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy.
• Develop and lead a diverse and collaborative legal team.
• Mentor high-performing legal staff.
• Provide advice on regulatory compliance and open source licensing.

Requirements

• J.D. from accredited U.S. law school or equivalent foreign degree.
• Current membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• 10+ years of experience practicing law in digital technology.
• Significant management experience.
• Experience working with engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of digital privacy and security.
• Able to work with diverse professionals.
• Experience with online user communities.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
