Legal Counsel - Remote

Overview

The National Police Federation is currently hiring a Legal Counsel to join our team. Legal Counsel’s core responsibility is to provide direction advice and/or ensure representation on NPF Member files, which includes Collective Agreement grievances, grievances filed under the Collective Agreement and/or the RCMP Act, Administrative discharges, disciplinary files under the RCMP Code of Conduct matters, and other legal processes as directed by the Manager, Legal Services, General Counsel and the Board of Directors.

In Short

• Provide legal advice and direction to NPF Member Services Team.
• Represent NPF Members in various labour processes.
• Assist in the development of legal services standard operating procedures.
• Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions.
• Provide training and create resource documents for NPF employees.
• Supervise and manage ongoing legal files.
• Draft submissions and appear before administrative tribunals.
• Support NPF staff directors on legal issues.
• Participate in informal resolution processes.
• Assess complex situations and provide strategic legal advice.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws or a J.D. Degree.
• Current member in good standing of a provincial or territorial Law Society.
• 3+ years of law experience.
• Bilingualism preferred.
• Knowledgeable in labour and employment law.
• Ability to analyze and interpret legal issues.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
