Insurance Specialist - Remote

Overview

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all appointments and procedures are authorized, verifying coverage and benefit limitations, and minimizing reimbursement errors.

In Short

• Contact insurance carriers to verify coverage
• Pre-authorize and schedule tests and procedures
• Calculate deductibles, co-payments, and account balances
• Follow up on accounts as indicated by system flags
• Perform medical necessity screenings for third-party payors
• Document referrals and authorization numbers in the EPIC system
• Assist with denial management issues
• Communicate anticipated self-pay portions to patients
• Provide financial counseling information to self-pay patients
• Maintain knowledge of major payor payment provisions

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous insurance authorization experience preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology
• General knowledge of time of service collection procedures
• Minimum typing speed of 25 words per minute
• Ability to work in a standard office environment
