Overview

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all appointments and procedures are authorized, verifying coverage with insurance carriers, and minimizing reimbursement errors.

In Short

• Verify insurance coverage and benefits for requested services.
• Pre-authorize tests and procedures.
• Calculate deductibles, co-payments, and account balances.
• Minimize reimbursement errors related to referrals and enrollment.
• Document referrals and authorization numbers in the EPIC system.
• Communicate with patients about their financial responsibilities.
• Assist with denial management and appeals as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of major payor payment provisions.
• Provide financial counseling to self-pay patients.
• Work in a standard office environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous insurance authorization experience preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
• Understanding of third-party payors and business math.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Typing speed of at least 25 words per minute.
• Ability to read and comprehend medical documents.
• Ability to work in a standard office environment.
