Overview

The UM Specialist is responsible for verifying client benefits related to mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse, while also managing authorizations and billing processes.

In Short

  • Verify client’s mental health and substance abuse benefits.
  • Obtain initial and subsequent authorizations from health insurance plans.
  • Implement tracking systems for recertification of services.
  • Complete insurance forms and verify coverage.
  • Answer inquiries from clients and third-party payers.
  • Perform administrative functions to expedite billing processes.
  • Resolve billing problems and update insurance information.
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for data entry.
  • Participate in ongoing professional training and development.

Requirements

  • Completion of up to 18 months of additional business education.
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience in insurance or managed care.
  • Strong observation and analytical skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and billing codes.
  • Typing speed of 45-55 words per minute.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Willingness to undergo COVID and Influenza vaccinations.
