An opportunity has become available for an experienced Database Administrator to join our team to help us transform our existing operational workloads to an SRE approach.
In Short
Day-to-day management and optimisation of MySQL databases within a Galera cluster and AWS environments.
Managing and optimising query workloads to ensure performance.
Collaborating closely with DevOps and SRE teams to ensure database performance and reliability.
Implementing best practices for database management, including backup, recovery, and high availability.
Establishing and maintaining observability standards for database performance metrics.
Continuously evolving database monitoring and observability tools.
Driving database technology change to support regional deployments.
Utilising a code-first approach for database changes.
Advocating for a strong focus on database availability and reliability.
Maintaining up-to-date documentation in JIRA & Confluence tools.
Requirements
Experience with AWS, particularly with RDS and Galera clusters.
Strong background in managing databases in high availability environments.
Proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform, Python, Bash.
Deep understanding of database management practices, focusing on MySQL.
Understanding of DB sharding technologies.
Familiarity with SQL, PHP, and CI/CD processes.
Experience with observability tools for database performance.
Knowledge of managing database infrastructures using SLI/SLO & Error Budgets.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Capacity to perform under pressure and maintain high reliability.
