Overview

The Revenue Cycle Support Specialist plays a key role in supporting revenue cycle operations by managing documentation, coordinating medical records requests, and ensuring accurate processing of administrative tasks.

In Short

  • Process incoming requests for medical records from patients, providers, and third parties.
  • Verify authorization forms for compliance with HIPAA regulations before releasing medical records.
  • Retrieve and compile requested medical records from the EHR system or physical files.
  • Scan and upload documents, including superbills and correspondence, into the document management system.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and organization of records for easy retrieval.
  • Coordinate with medical billers to ensure documentation supports billing processes.
  • Open and sort incoming mail, ensuring proper categorization and distribution.
  • Work closely with internal teams to address missing or incomplete documentation.
  • Maintain accurate logs of medical record requests, superbill processing, and other administrative functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency in document management.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and medical records handling.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple requests efficiently.
  • Experience with EHR systems and document management software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot documentation issues and streamline processes.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clerical, administrative, or healthcare role preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical billing processes and terminology is a plus.
  • Experience with NextGen is preferred.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements.
