Senior Engineer, Mass Properties - Remote

Overview

Otto Aviation is seeking a dynamic engineer to join our Aircraft Integration Team. The ideal candidate will have a background in performing mass properties analysis, weight control, and reporting for aircraft level and subsystem analysis across a multi-disciplinary team.

In Short

• Be a functioning team member within Otto’s Aircraft Integration Team.
• Develop systematic method for tracking and assessing vehicle weights, component weights, weight distributions, and centers of gravity.
• Calculate and estimate component weights, moment arms, and mass moment of inertia from CAD and engineering drawings.
• Calculate and track overall aircraft weight and balance.
• Develop aircraft mass distributions in support of loads development.
• Coordinate directly with system owners to ensure data is accurate and up to date.
• Manage weight control plans, including allocation and tracking of target weights.
• Define weight, balancing, and mass properties related design requirements.
• Communicate top level requirements to subsystems and determine proper verification and validation methods.
• Perform and participate in trade studies to influence key aircraft decisions.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of dedicated mass properties aerospace experience.
• Minimum 5 years aerospace experience, or a closely related field.
• Skills in CATIA V5/V6/3DX (or similar); 3DX is preferred.
• Expertise in generating and maintaining weight, CG, and inertia tracking and assessment tools.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Overall knowledge of mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, avionics, and key interfaces to aircraft systems common on Part 23 / Part 25 aircraft.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards with hands-on experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of Product Lifecycle Management processes.
