Overview

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and ensuring accurate patient registration and insurance verification while maintaining confidentiality and providing excellent customer service.

In Short

  • Greet patients and guests courteously, both in person and over the phone.
  • Initiate scheduling appointments and completing the check-in process.
  • Verify patient identification and demographic data for medical records.
  • Conduct point-of-service collections and explain insurance benefits.
  • Gather and input patient demographic and financial information accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families.
  • Balance cash drawer and prepare deposit slips at the end of shifts.
  • Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and needs.
  • Remain knowledgeable on laws and regulations pertaining to healthcare access.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • One year of related experience in healthcare or customer service.
  • Computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and clerical skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and billing regulations.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations professionally.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in difficult situations.
  • Certifications in healthcare access preferred.
